Free practice started today ahead of the opening round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship this Sunday at Brands Hatch.
Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne’s, on the Airwaves Ducati 1098R, fought off the challenges of Leon Haslam on the HM Plant Honda, but only by a third of a second.
Shakey, is originally for Kent and has a special affinity with the circuit. He said “As well as being my local circuit, it is the first place that I ever raced, and I won that day and was given the man-of-the-meeting award.”
Haslam said “Shakey will be hard, but If I am to win the title, then I want to have earned it by beating the best.”
Third fastest was Cal Crutchlow just ahead of Karl Harris on the Yamaha.
