The World Champion Darts player Andy Fordham along with AP Kawasaki Team Manager Alan Greig, are to launch a British Superbike Darts League for 2011 to raise funds for Riders For Health.

Fordham was spotted on the grid at the Brands Hatch round of the Superbike Championship alongside John Wainwright who was racing in the Metzeler National Superstock 600cc series. The two met when Wainwright visited his local pub previously owned at the time by the darts player in his hometown.

Leon Haslam is also known to love the sport of darts and a match was held in the Alstare garage between the rider and Fordham. Haslam reportedly beat Fordham before the pair began to throw darts at a picture of Max Biaggi that had been pinned to the board!

The darts league will be open to all riders and teams in the series with 100% of the nominal fee going directly to the Riders For Health fund.

David Newman, the Chief Executive of motorbike insurance specialists Carole Nash, has set off on an Arctic expedition to fulfil a lifelong dream of reaching the North Pole.

Although David has always been an enthusiastic Arctic explorer, the goal of reaching the North Pole is somewhat of a lifelong dream. He will be joined by a team of British and Norwegian explorers as well as being led by the highly experienced Rune Gjeldnes as they brave unrelenting temperatures, dangerous ice conditions and polar bears to achieve their goal of reaching the North Pole.

As trekking to the North Pole isn’t something that many people get to do, David feels extremely privileged but aims to give something back to a community that he is very involved with through his career – the motorcycling world.

David aims to raise money for two very worthwhile charities with links to the motorcycling world- BASIC (Brain and Spinal Injuries Centre) and Riders for Health who both provide essential services.

BASIC is a charity that offers much needed support to families who are left to cope with the consequences of those who have received severe spinal or brain damage after a motorcycling accident. After the initial medical care has ended, BASIC provides practical ongoing care and rehabilitation for the families of the injured person. The money that David is aiming to raise will be used to build a brand new, special gymnasium that will assist the rehabilitation of those with injuries.

Riders for Health use motorcycles to provide professional healthcare to some of the remotest communities in Africa, which cannot otherwise be reached by public transport. The charity provides trained staff and motorbikes to aid those remote communities in need. The money raised from David’s expedition will go towards building a new centre in Zimbabwe and providing it with much needed healthcare personnel and a fleet of new motorbikes.

David is particularly enthusiastic about supporting these two charities due to his links with the motorcycling world. He is the Chief Executive for one of the most used bike insurance consultants in the UK and Ireland, Carole Nash Insurance Consultants, who provide a wide range of insurance policies for all kinds of different bikes and riders.

The expedition already has full funding and as this is a personal challenge for David he isn’t looking to get any further funding for the North Pole trek, but is hoping that the public will get behind the expedition to raise money for these two very worthy charities which benefit some of the world’s poorest people without medical aid and help rehabilitate those who are unfortunately injured in hundreds of motorcycle accidents every year.
