News Of The Two Injured British Superbike Riders

Joy Ryder - Wednesday 23.04.08, 14:59pm

karlKarl Harris, the Rob Mac Yamaha rider, was lucky to escape with only minor injuries after his horrific accident at the Thruxton circuit last weekend.

He has two stitches in his top lip and three broken metatarsal bones in his right foot. He said in an interview with MCN “I’ve broken three small bones in my foot.  It’s not going to be that big a problem because I don’t use that foot much anyway, but it’ll stop me from going out running for my training.  Tony Branfoot, the series doctor, told me it should be fine to ride at Oulton with a few painkillers inside me.  Other than that I’ve got two stitches in my top lip and I’m suffering from  a bit of whiplash – I’m contemplating going for one of those ‘no win, no fee’ claims against them for it” he said laughing.

He added “I have to say a big thanks to all the medical staff and circuit marshall’s – nobody gives them enough credit for what they do so I want to give them a big shout.”

Adam Jenkinson, the SMT Honda rider, however, will now have to miss the next round at Oulton Park after breaking his wrist at the Thruxton meeting.

The SMT Honda team owner, Robin Croft said “Adam had to have an operation down at Southampton hospital on Sunday night and early hours of Monday morning.  He’s got a metal brace on the outside of his wrist at the moment to keep the bone in place but they will have to operate again on Wednesday and then he can have it in a cast.  The break was a compound fracture and the bone came out of his hand so he has an open wound at the moment.  He’s a bit battered and bruised but hasn’t got any internal injuries or broken bones.”

The team will be looking for a replacement rider for the Oulton Park round of the Championship but as soon as Jenkinson is back to full fitness he will be back in the saddle.
